As Knox and I entered the kitchen, we found Deissy, Jess, Cole, Damien, and Aaron already at the table.

“Look who the cat drug in.” Deissy turned her body toward us and patted the seat that was open right next to her.

I passed by Aaron and Deissy to sit where she had pointed. “Is this the right place?”

“Yup. After getting kicked out of our room, I at least get the honor of eating next to you.” Deissy took a large bite of eggs.

“So, how was your morning?” Jess picked up the bowl of eggs and handed them over to me.

“It was good.” It was strange having her sitting right in front of me and then Cole across from Deissy. For whatever reason, Damien sat on the end by Cole and right across from Aaron.

“Please don’t ask her about her morning.” Cole huffed as he took the bacon and passed it to Jess to give it to me instead of him sliding it over. “I hope it wasn’t a good one.”

“That’s not very nice.” Deissy snorted and shook her head. “Shouldn’t you want your daughter to have a good morning?”

“If he weren’t involved, then yes.” Cole shook as if a shiver ran through him. “Being good and involving him is not something I want to think of while I’m eating breakfast.”

“So after breakfast then?” He had that one coming.

“No, I don’t want to think about your good mornings at all anymore.” Cole took a large sip of his blood and pouted. “I hope from here on out, your mornings start out mediocre.”

“Well, my morning was fantastic.” If he was going to be an ass, I could be too.

“Oh, dear God.” Damien shook his head and shoveled a large bite of food onto his fork. “Those two going at it is going to be traumatic. I’m eating this and getting the hell out of here.”

“Didn’t you hear me.” His eyes locked with mine. “I don’t want to know.”

“Okay, you two.” The corners of Jess’s lips began to curve upward.

“If we’re sharing about our good mornings, let me tell you about mine.” Cole set his drink on the table and lifted his chin in the air. “My good morning was due to Jess screaming my name twice.”

“Is this normal?” Aaron’s forehead wrinkled, and he scooted away from the table.

“Aren’t you glad that you dodged this bullet?” Deissy pointed at my parents then Knox and me.

“Well, my morning started out …”

A hand covered my mouth, and I turned my head toward Knox. He arched an eyebrow. “This is one you can lose.”

He’d pay for this. I bit into his hand, drawing a little blood.

“Damn.” His breathing quickened, and he dropped his hand.

“Quitting’s for losers.” I leaned closer into his space. “And if you do that again, you might wake up with one of your balls missing.”

“Oh, do it again, Knox.” Deissy gave him a thumbs up. “Call her bluff.”

Please don’t. Knox caught my eye. My relationship is already strained enough with your parents.

He’ll think we’re weak.
